Breakfast for dinner, the secret childhood dream 馃崼馃ィ

As a child it was the ultimate: breakfast for dinner. Cornflakes at 7 pm, pancakes at sunset, pure rebellion at the dinner table. And now the surprising news: the childhood dream isn't such a bad idea for sleep at all.
Many classic breakfast ingredients are secret sleep helpers. Oats contain melatonin and complex carbohydrates that ease the uptake of tryptophan, the amino acid from which the body builds its sleep hormone. Warm milk isn't just nostalgia: it delivers tryptophan too.
Bananas bring magnesium and potassium, which relax the muscles. And a small drizzle of honey in the porridge helps the tryptophan on its way to the brain. A warm bowl of oats with banana and honey in the evening is less rule-breaking than a bedtime ritual.
Timing matters: the last larger meal should be two to three hours before bed, so digestion doesn't turn into a night shift. And the sugar-bomb cereals of childhood are better left on the shelf, refined sugar in the evening delivers a rollercoaster rather than rest.
Verdict: breakfast for dinner is allowed, in the grown-up version. Your inner child is happy, and so is your sleep.
