Beds & mattresses · Plymouth, England · 1901
Luxury beds since 1901.
At the beginning of the 20th century, an English engineer named James Marshall decided to give his wife the most valuable gift of all, perfect sleep. His invention: steel springs, sewn into individual pockets for the first time.

The story
Marshall's mattress was a groundbreaking innovation that made Vispring the epitome of luxury. In 1911, ocean liners were the ultimate way to travel and they brought Vispring its first major orders: the tailor-made comfort of a Vispring mattress was a perfect match for the opulent cabins and suites of the world's most exclusive ships, such as the Titanic and the Olympic. After decades of innovation and countless bespoke mattresses, Vispring was awarded the Queen's Award for Enterprise in 2012. To this day, every Vispring is made by hand in Plymouth, no two beds are alike.
